14. Female Chinese Character

According to the theory of social constructionism, there is no real objectivity but instead experienced subjectivity that shapes a person’s reality. Gender inequality as a social issue is also constructed and thus the idea of gender inequality is conveyed into people’s minds by social interactions. And languages as the main media of social interactions play important roles in the discourse process.

As the difference between “he” and “she” which puts the male and the female into different categories, Chinese language as a pictographic language has a new dimension of gender equality issues. In this project, I analyzed the formation rules of Chinese and tried to deconstruct the language into a gender-neutral one.
