9. Cropping Shanshui

The story of the Lanting Pavilion began with Wang Xizhi and a group of scholars gathering there for the “flowing goblets” ritual. In Lanting, scholars composed poems and expressed their sentiments. Since then, Lanting has become a poetic site for scholars and poets.

The Lanting Calligraphy Academy inherits the calligraphic spirit of Lanting. Its space is designed as a “scroll of paintings and calligraphy” that one can walk through. As visitors wander within, they feel as though they are strolling through the strokes of Wang Xizhi’s brushwork, immersed in a dialogue between nature and humanity that transcends time.
