1. Marfa Parasite
Marfa, once a historic Texas border town shaped by its roles as a steam train water stop, ranger outpost, and WWII prisoner-of-war camp, has been transformed since the 1970s into an "Art Oasis" by artist Donald Judd. This change erased much of its original character, replacing public spaces with artist studios and galleries. The town's new identity is shaped by transient waves of tourists drawn to art and fashion landmarks but disconnected from local life.
A proposed architectural narrative critiques this transformation, portraying Marfa as "parasitized" on two levels. On a large scale, the building is an alien, insect-like structure—awkwardly out of place yet fitting as another trendy landmark akin to the Prada Marfa installation. On a smaller scale, visitors are depicted as intruding parasites, disconnected from the town's history and original residents, finding refuge within this space.

2. China Merchants Museum
At the end of the 1970s, China shifted its focus to economic development, with Shenzhen becoming the first Special Economic Zone. The China Merchants Group from Hong Kong took the lead in establishing Shekou Industrial Zone in Shenzhen. They blasted the hilly terrain, reclaimed the sea to build ports, and attracted foreign investment, making it a pioneer in China’s Reform and Opening-up.
The successful operational mechanism of the industrial zone became known as the “Shekou Model”, which set the stage for China’s 40 years of economic takeoff. The China Merchants Group, founded in the late Qing Dynasty in 1872, went through the ups and downs of the Republic period and then the PRC, decided to build the China Merchants History Museum on top of the seaside hill of Weiboshan in Shekou to celebrate its 150th anniversary.

3. Hakka Campus
Nestled in a triangular plot by the street, the Experimental School Affiliated to LGIES appears somewhat "out of place" amid its urban surroundings. This Longgang Wulian community, far from downtown Shenzhen, is experiencing the jarring effects of rapid urbanization, with traces of old urban villages gradually erased and new development projects flooding in, crudely overlaying the existing fabric. However, within this common scene of Chinese cities, a hidden paradise quietly flourishes.

4. Kingway Brewery
Kingway Brewery is located in Luohu, the downtown district of Shenzhen Special Economic Zone, renowned for its early development. Kingway Beer has been the collective memory of Shenzheners, especially among the pioneers and migrants from all over China to pursue their dreams in this frontier city of China’s reform and opening-up. As Shenzhen proceeds with its radical urban development and industrial upgrade, shifting from traditional manufacturing to a smart economy, a substantial part of Kingway Brewery’s standing structures was demolished, leaving a rectilinear site of about 11,600 square meters vectoring north to south, marking the city’s industrial heritage, urban development and memories of past endeavors, glories and entrepreneurial pioneering spirit.
Following the notion “Space as Exhibition”, we started with the rediscovery and transformation of the spatial features of the site and renovated the remaining industrial structures and facilities with flexible and creative use of spatial interventions and integrations, leading to an out-of-the-ordinary spatial experience. It has effectively transformed Kingway Brewery into a public cultural platform of new urban life.

5. Yuehai Culture and Sports Center
Shenzhen is evolving its urban design to integrate interconnected cultural and recreational spaces, moving away from isolated facilities toward dynamic public hubs. The Yuehai Cultural and Sports Center exemplifies this shift with its multi-level design, featuring a shaded plaza, accessible cultural amenities, and diverse functional zones, including a library, a swimming pool with city views, and a "sky sports garden."
These spaces are linked by escalators, creating seamless transitions between a central community plaza, an elevated "city living room," and outdoor fitness areas, fostering urban vitality and interaction.

6. Sunset Housing
In the 1840s, San Francisco was plagued by crises. Rampant drug abuse, devastating fires, and deadly diseases that wiped out 10% of the population pushed this fledgling Gold Rush city to the brink of collapse. In desperate need of a new urban identity to restore public confidence and encourage prospectors to settle permanently, the city government looked to the success of New York’s Central Park as a potential remedy. They decided to replicate this urban miracle with a grand project of their own—Golden Gate Park—hoping it would redefine the city’s image.
Golden Gate Park fulfilled its historical mission, reigniting San Francisco’s urban vitality. However, its development also introduced new challenges. As a park built on a monumental scale rather than a community scale, it resulted in an uneven distribution of green space in surrounding neighborhoods.
Now, imagine a parallel timeline—one where we reimagine the urban fabric of the Sunset District in the aftermath of the park’s construction. In this alternate vision, we aim to shape a high-density residential area that returns green space to the community, creating a more equitable and livable urban environment.

7. Costa Rica Environmental Center
The site is located on a peninsula in Costa Rica, where the landscape is composed of fine sandy beaches, wave-eroded cliffs, and dense tropical rainforests. The building is inserted into the slope at a subtle angle, slightly diverging from the contour lines so that it gradually descends toward sea level from east to west. Positioned along the threshold between vegetation and rock, the architecture embodies a gesture that transitions from stone to forest, merging seamlessly into its natural context.
In terms of spatial organization, the laboratory and the residential units are independently embedded within the jungle. The residences, seeking privacy, are placed away from the main public volume, while the laboratory is partially buried beneath the ground, connecting to the main entrance hall. Together, they form a vertically interwoven and spatially permeable relationship.
The southern façade of the main public building traces a straight, assertive line, appearing to cut into the mountain with a sense of deliberate intrusion. In contrast, the northern contour is eroded and reshaped by the terrain, giving rise to an interior experience that feels both natural and transformative. Moving from the entrance toward the innermost space evokes a journey into the mountain itself—transitioning from light to shadow, from air to earth.

9. Cropping Shanshui
The story of the Lanting Pavilion began with Wang Xizhi and a group of scholars gathering there for the “flowing goblets” ritual. In Lanting, scholars composed poems and expressed their sentiments. Since then, Lanting has become a poetic site for scholars and poets.
The Lanting Calligraphy Academy inherits the calligraphic spirit of Lanting. Its space is designed as a “scroll of paintings and calligraphy” that one can walk through. As visitors wander within, they feel as though they are strolling through the strokes of Wang Xizhi’s brushwork, immersed in a dialogue between nature and humanity that transcends time.

10. Donguan Costal City Urban Design
In traditional urban cultural development, the "four cultural buidlings" model has become a standard choice in urban planning.
However, the urban design of Dongguan Binhaiwan New District breaks free from this model, focusing instead on reconfiguring the functional spaces. It integrates commerce, culture, and urban life into an organic whole. The original “four cultural buildings” model has evolved into N cultural buildings, with each building reduced in size, while the overall scale remains unchanged. The isolated cultural center have been deconstructed into a cultural city composed of N interconnected cultural buildings.
